Morning folks. I've had so many new readers and commenters stop by lately that I welcome the chance to use Halloween as an excuse to take some time to put together a proper acknowledgement of them. So today we'll suspend normal business and wish the little ones a happy and safe time tonight while making their rounds. Also gives me the chance to tell a funny story (to me at least) of something that happened to my Dad one time.

Like a lot of people at that time, 60 years ago, we did not have indoor plumbing at home. Heck, even the school used the outdoor facility. Our "reading room" was of course in the backyard and there was a pretty well beaten path to it, so that even in the dark it was easy to find. One Halloween the local "big boys" picked up the ahem, crapper, and moved it straight back a few feet on a line the path was on from the house. Dad used to like his drink, and sure enough late that night, with a bellyfull, he stumbled out to use it and plop, right into the hole. Us kids (5) heard a bunch of noise, went downstairs, and there was Dad, roaring like a bull and covered from head to toe. Mom told us later he even had it in his mouth. You bet we hid! Of course with no indoor plumbing we did'nt have a shower, so by the time he got cleaned up the house was quite "aromatic".

I'll be back later today with a picture of one of the scary things that might be lurking out there tonight. Have a decent work-week, and keep an eye on the little ones tonight. While our "fun" was more mischief than anything, it's not the same anymore. Inspect their treats well because we've all heard the horror stories of the things that are found each year.

I thought that if I put a cute picture up you would forgive me for the poor wording at the end of today's post below. When I typed "On a personal note, I have lost a grand-child", I did'nt realize that it would read as a recent event. In fact it happened 11 years ago, but things like that are timeless. I put that in because it fit the poem, and yes I was at the bedside when my baby grand-daughter died of a defective heart valve. Sorry for the confusion, but it was a good lesson for me. A lot of times I wonder if anyone actually reads what I post, well, now I know.

Morning folks. Hope you remembered to fall back last night as in "Spring ahead...." Most of you probably welcome the extra hour of sleep, so I'm sure you did. There is talk lately of extending Daylight Savings Time in some sort of mis-guided attempt to save energy, but my feeling is, leave it alone, it's fine the way it is. The other option would be to do away with it altogether.

Being Sunday I was ready to go the confessional and apologize for the locker-room humour in yesterday's post. In fact I did so by e-mail to a couple of readers and was assured that no offense was committed. Still, I should have trusted my first instinct and picked other jokes. I am by no means a prude or goody two-shoes, but this page is not the place for that stuff. Thankfully my ol' bud, Robert Service, is here to bail me out:

THE QUEST

I sought Him on the purple seas,
I sought Him on the peaks aflame;
Amid the gloom of giant trees
And canyons lone I called His name;
The wasted ways of earth I trod:
In vain! In vain! I found not God.

I sought Him in the hives of men,
The cities grand, the hamlets grey,
The temples old beyond my ken,
The tabernacles of to-day;
All life that is, from cloud to clod
I sought...Alas! I found not God.

Then after roamings far and wide,
In streets and seas and deserts wild,
I came to stand at last beside
The death-bed of my little child.

Lo! as I bent beneath the rod
I raised my eyes....and there was God.

On a personal note, I have lost a grand-child.

Morning folks. Being Saturday, it's time for a few chuckles:

A beautiful young woman, about to undergo a minor operation, is lying on a gurney in a hospital corridor awaiting the medical staff. A man in a white coat approaches her, lifts up the sheet, and visually examines her naked body. He walks away and confers with another man in a white coat. The second man then approaches the girl and performs the same examination. When a third man approaches her, she asks impatiently, "These examinations are fine, but when are you going to start the operation?" He shrugs and says, "Your guess is as good as mine, lady. We're just here to paint the halls."

A man and his wife are on a holiday and decide to buy themselves some pets. He buys a snake, and the woman gets a skunk. As they pass through airport control, they notice a sign: "No Animals Will Be Allowed Through Quarantine." Upset, the woman turns to her husband and asks what they should do. After pondering the problem, the man comes up with a plan. "What I'll do is tie the snake around my waist and pretend it's a snakeskin belt." "Yes," the woman replies, "but what about the skunk?" "I don't know," the man says, "hide it up your skirt." "But what about the smell?" the woman asks. "Look," says the husband, "if it dies, it dies!" (Sorry about that one, but it's just too funny!)

A farmer had three lovely daughters, all who had dates on Friday night. One by one the local boys came by to pick them up. The first boy arrived and said: "Hi, I'm Eddie, I'm here for Betty, we're going steady, is she ready?" The farmer called Betty and she and Eddie went on their way. The second boy arrived and said: "Hi, I'm Joe, I'm here for Flo, we're going to the show, is she ready to go?" The farmer called Flo and she and Joe went on their way. The third boy arrived in an old beat up pickup, came to the door and said: "Hi, I'm Chuck." The farmer shot him.

See you tomorrow with a poem.

Morning folks. Up until a few short weeks ago I would start my day off by answering the previous day's comments, singularly, in the comment box/window. Perhaps I should go back to that, because I want the new readers/commenters to know how much I appreciate them, along with my regular "posse". I like to think that I do this blogging thingy for my enjoyment, and while that is true, it's your participation that makes it enjoyable.

A case in point is this lady, who says she was sent here to give me a spanking. I realized that her remark was extremely tongue-in-cheek and also realized I could have some fun with it. By the way, Poopie, I'm familiar with your town having picked up loads there, so be careful. I might have to send out my crack investigative team to see if spanking is the only Birthday service you offer. Kidding aside, you guys should check out her site. Fun stuff, well written!

Another person I want to get to know is this fellow. I've been told, and can sense, that he is an intelligent guy and Lord knows I can stand some teaching. Living in Pakistan, as he does, enables him to show us things from a different perspective.

There are others to acknowledge but I don't want to cause "link-fatigue". Be assured that every visitor/commenter is appreciated. New or old, I consider all of you my buds.

Being a news junkie, with all that's going on this morning re: indictments etc. I'm having trouble concentrating, so let's do the words now and I'll be back later today. Remember, multi-tasking to me means chewing AND swallowing, so I'm kinda lost.

WWOTD: Yesterday...Circumbilivagination.......Going around in circles.
..................Today...Addecimate
WOTD: Yesterday...Galactophagist....Milk drinker
..............Today...Ana...(think divvying up the loot)

QOTD: The person you are living with is a slob.

While choosing today's picture I was struck by the fact that while we have many famous artists, none can compare to Mother Nature herself. This beautiful fish is called a Striped Angel. Since taking an interest in things like this, I am continually amazed at the wonders around us.

Morning folks. The other day I mentioned how uncomfortable I get when people make a fuss over me. At the insistence of a certain someone I decided to go with the flow, and I'm so glad I did because right now I've got a big case of the warm fuzzys. To receive such complimentary comments and e-mail has me wondering if I could get away with a "B" day every few weeks. This site has only been up for 3 weeks and already my old friends, along with some new ones, are making me feel that perhaps this time I've got it right. You're truly a great bunch of guys!

Last Saturday Ol' Hoss urged his readers to visit this lady. Because I did'nt want to get slapped, I dutifully did so, and am glad for doing it. After spending some time there I urge you to visit her page, because she is one of us. I have her on the roll as "ivy". There are other new friends to link you to and I'll be doing that in time.

Our teachers finally went back to work this week after walking the picket line for 2 weeks. Without picking sides I have to seriously question the intelligence of those responsible for teaching our children. One of their bones of contention was class size, and the things they wanted to correct the problem, as they saw it, would cost $100 million to implement. Since the government saved $160 million in wages they were only too glad to agree to the changes. So who won that scrap? Of course we all know who lost..the children, and the parents that had to scramble for day-care etc. If I was a teacher I would send my "leaders" back to Labour Relations 101.

The men can relate to this, but how is it that you can leave the barber shop after a hair-cut thinking it looks good, then next morning when you reach up to shampoo your hair in the shower, think my God I'm bald! One of the great mysteries of life. Oh well, guess I'll have to wear a touque for awhile, wait, I don't have one. Sorry ladies, I won't be able to come out and play until the new foliage appears. Oh, the agony of it all!

There, this post should cover the 3 themes of this page, musing, nattering, and time-wasting, so let's do the serious(?) part.

WWOTD: Yesterday...Cacatory......Accompanied by loose bowels.
..................Today....Circumbilivagination...No more clues Hoss.
WOTD: Yesterday...Annodated.....Shaped like the letter "S".
..............Today...Galactophagist (think moustache, sort of)

On Monday I posted a photo of a wonderful scene from Switzerland. To prove that one does'nt have to go that far afield to find such a vista, here is a shot of Telluride CO. Morning folks. For a man that has never been comfortable with people fussing over him I must admit that I enjoyed the hell out of yesterday. While they are not necessary, or a reason to blog, we all like getting comments, and yesterday was the most I have ever received. It was humbling to hear from old friends, new friends, and special friends. I also made out like gang-busters in the gift department. A heart-felt THANK YOU to everyone!

For those that have'nt read the latest update on Karen (Huggy), she will be coming home today, her home that is, from the hospital. A big sigh of relief from all of us! All of the help she gives me aside, she is simply a good person.

Today starts the WWOTD part of the Question of the day. Those that know him will agree that Ol' Hoss is absolutely smarter than the average bear, so this should be fun. I have a list of 400 actual words that have never been seen on the internet, so bear down Hoss, it's crunch time. For the rest of us the WOTD will continue.

Back to the "B" day for a moment. Two of the special things that happened were: my friend and soul-mate devoting a post to me (WOW!) and another one by one of my "heroes". Her page is the first one I go to each day, and to have her acknowledge me blew my socks off! I am a current affairs junkie, and Bush-Whacker in training, and it's sites like hers that I enjoy. One day, for what it's worth, I'm going to put up a list of the sites I enjoy, then sit back and watch your eyes glaze over.

To work: WOTD...Yesterday..Algedonics...Science of pleasure and pain.
.................Today...Annodated (think shapes)
WWOTD....Cacatory...Think night-time at the ol' farts home.

QOTD: When your car is stolen, the police officer asks you if there was anything of value in it.

Off to find a picture for this afternoon.

How do Canadians feel now that the NHL is back to playing? Well, DUH!!

Thanks so much for all the kind words on my "B" day. I even had a wonderful gift flown to Vancouver, then delivered to me to-day. What was it, and who was it from? Let's just say that what happens here at the ol' El Rancho No Gotto, stays at the..............!

Special thanks to watertiger, who blew my socks off.

Morning folks. I'm really drilling a dry hole to-day, so I'll fess up to something that normally I don't make much of a fuss about. Besides, a certain someone is going to blow my cover. Today is the day that comes only once a year for all of us, albeit not on the same date, thankfully. Yep, the "B" day. I'm 39 plus tax. The tax rate is 71.795%. Do the math.

As I said, I really don't have anything to natter about, plus Timmy is kicking my butt. I'm going to lay back down and see if I can sleep a bit, but before I do:

WOTD: Yesterday...Logomachy.......Contention about words.
...............Today....Algedonics (think relationships)

QOTD: On the day a relative lets you use his/her season tickets for a basketball game, the seats are randomly selected as winners for two round-trip tickets to London.

Back later today with, I hope, a better effort.

This picture is of a village in Switzerland that is too beautiful not to share. The more I learn of the capabilities of modern cameras, the more I'm determined to find, and share, photos like this. If only I had taken photos of my years on the road, well, it's never too late. I'm hooked. In fact on my recent trip to Alaska if I had known what was possible with my digital camera, I would have applied myself instead of just pointing and clicking.

Morning folks. Hope everyone made it through the week-end safely. Heard from Booper yesterday and she's really enjoying her time with the grand-children, in fact when she called she was watching our grand-son Chris playing football in a school tournament. Her pride came through in her voice, kinda made me wish that I was there, but this is her time. For an ex-wife she's a good ol' boot (I'll pay for that one), and with getting her sister through brain surgery she deserves this break.

Still on surgery, most regular readers know that Karen had an operation last week (Thursday), and for updates you can go to her site. I was given the phone number of the hospital, her phone really, and after an appropiate time I called on Saturday. Most also know I call her Huggy and this is how the conversation went: "Hello- Hey Huggy, how ya doin'?- Hello-How ya feelin' Huggy-Who is this-Who the hxxl else calls you Huggy-(silence)-This is Karen's mother, WHO IS THIS-(oops)-this is Bob etc". We both a good laugh finally, especially after her telling me that she knew who I was but was going to be asking Karen about this Huggy stuff. I started to explain but when she laughed I realized that was a gotchya. My kind of humor, nice lady.

On Saturday a certain ol' codger down in Orrygun, who also has a sense of humor I appreciate, took a playful poke at me when he questioned the type of dictiominary I used for the WOTD. Game on!, henceforth the WOTD will be in two parts, one for the pedestrian folks like me, and one for the wordsmith's among us, like Hoss. It will be the WWOTD. I'll finish the ones I have (2) then start the two-parter. Should be fun.

Another good friend of this page was a little bashful when she announced that her site would record it's 50,000th hit on Saturday. Not true! That was the number of visits, but a hit is either a visit or a view. As of two minutes ago her hits are 87,586! Don't hide your light under a bushel dear, you've got a great site, and deserve every one of them.

WOTD: Logomachy (think above piece about Hoss)

QOTD: At work, you walk in on your boss smoking marijuana in the bathroom.

See ya later to-day.

Morning folks. Being Sunday, I get to call on my ol' buddy, Robert Service, to help me with to-day's post. I picked this one because it fits so well with the photo below. It's amazing how sometimes things just come together. When he wrote this poem 70 years ago, little did he know that I, a retired trucker, would be putting it on something called the internet, and further, on a "blog". Back then the words did'nt exist, let alone the actual things. Before you begin, take a good look at the photo, then enjoy the poem.

THE LAND OF BEYOND

Have ever you heard of the Land of Beyond,
That dreams at the gates of the day?
Alluring it lies at the skirts of the skies,
And ever so far away;
Alluring it calls: O ye the yoke galls,
And ye of the trail overfond,
With saddle and pack, by paddle and track,
Let's go to the Land of Beyond!

Have ever you stood where the silences brood,
And vast the horizons begin,
At the dawn of the day to behold far away
The goal you would strive for and win?
Yet ah! in the night when you gain to the height,
With the vast pool of heaven star-spawned,
Afar and agleam, like a valley of dream,
Still mocks you a Land of Beyond.

Thank God! there is always a Land of Beyond
For us who are true to the trail;
A vision to seek, a beckoning peak,
A fairness that never will fail;
A pride in our soul that mocks at a goal,
A manhood that irks at a bond,
And try how we will, unattainable still,
Behold it, our LAND OF BEYOND!

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. --John Muir

I grabbed this picture off this site, for a couple of reasons. One, the message is inspirational and two, once again the colors are such a great fit here. Additionally, that is a good site to visit if you're in the mood for a little Bush-Whackin'.

Not sure about this one, but click on the truck below to enlarge. I'm going to use it as a back-ground, as one commenter is also going to do. See ya in the morning!

Morning folks. Being Saturday, it's time for a few chuckles:

One Day, at a bus stop there was a girl who was wearing a skintight miniskirt. When the bus arrived and it was her turn to get on, she realized that her skirt was so tight she couldn't get her foot high enough to reach to step. Thinking it would give her enough slack to raise her leg, she reached back and unzipped her skirt a little. She still could not reach the step. Embarrassed, she reached back once again to unzip it a little more. Still, she couldn't reach the step. So, with her skirt zipper halfway down, she reached back and unzipped her skirt all the way. Thinking that she could get on the step now, she lifted up her leg only to realize that she still couldn't reach the step. So, seeing how embarrassed the girl was, the man standing behind her put his hands around her waist and lifted her up on to the first step of the bus. The girl turned around furiously and said, "How dare you touch my body that way, I don't even know you!" Shocked, the man says, "Well, ma'am, after you reached around and unzipped my fly three times, I kinda figured that we were friends."

A man and his wife were working in their garden one day. The man looked over at his wife and said, "Your butt is getting really big. I bet your butt is bigger than the barbecue grill." With that, he proceeded to get a measuring tape and measured the grill, then went over to where his wife was working and measured his wife's bottom. "Yup, I was right, your butt is two inches wider than the barbecue grill." The woman chose to ignore her husband. Later that night, in bed, the husband was feeling a little frisky. He made some advances toward his wife, who completely brushed him off. "What's wrong?" he asked. She answered, "Do you really think I'm going to fire up this big-ass grill for one little weenie?"

A man goes to his priest and tells him that his wife is trying to poison him. The priest says, "Now, John, how do you know that?" John says, "Well, I have terrible headaches. My stomach is upset. I have no stamina and my legs are weak. My vision is blurry and I have lost my appetite. A month ago I was in perfect health." The priest asks John if he has gone to the police. "Yes, I have, and they just laughed at me. Would you just talk to her and see if you can pick up on something that would make you think she's upset or mad at me?" The priest says, "Well, John, I'll try and see what I can do, but don't get your hopes up. Come back and see me tomorrow." The next day, John goes to the priest and asks if he found anything suspicious. The priest says, "I talked to your wife for five hours on the phone yesterday, John. Take the poison."

WOTD: Yesterday...Cabotage...Shipping, sailing between points in same country. We'll pick up the words on Monday. I'll see if I can find a Robert Service poem for to-morrow. Also, I'll try to find an interesting, I hope, picture for later to-day.

Check out the TLC this fellow lavishes on his pride and joy. The top of those 7" exhaust stacks (chimneys) are about 13 feet off the ground, so you don't just reach up and wipe them off. Not a bug to be seen on the front end, lot's of elbow grease there. With the marker lights visible, plus the ones on the other side and across the back, I'm guessing in excess of two hundred. For an old trucker like me, this is a great example of a fellow that is not a truck driver, but a TRUCKER!

Morning folks. A little slow off the mark again to-day, thanks to this blasted cold that keeps on hangin' on. Almost need a drain cup for my sinuses. Oops, I can almost hear you saying, "thanks for sharing that with us". Don't know whether it's just me, but these things seem to come more often and stay longer. There was a time I could blame it on sleeping next to an open crack but, alas, no more. (Now stop that!).

Compared to my whiny little thing my tech assistant has a real health issue happening. She had major surgery yesterday to remove ovarian cysts. It had been hoped to do it laproscopically but for whatever reason that did'nt happen. I know the procedure was completed, but beyond that I've heard no news. I'll phone the hospital later to-day.

Going to drive Booper to the airport in a couple of hours. She's going over to Calgary to meet one of our sons, then to his place to spend some time with two of our grand-children. She's been run ragged lately tending to her sister, who just had brain surgery, so I'm not going. This will be her time. I've been told what's planned for her and she'll have a time. Later to-day she'll have dinner in the dining room atop the Husky Tower, then spend the night in a luxury suite on the 24th floor of a fancy hotel. Damn, maybe I should go! Oops, I just read what I typed, she goes to his place in Drumheller to-morrow. Our son Bob, who is working over in the Kootenays, is also going to meet her and have dinner with her and Brian to-night.

I found a great picture of a truck yesterday that I'd like to put up but I'm trying to make sure it's allowed. It's on a Flickr page, and while mine on that site are public I'm not sure that everyone's are. One of the reasons I'd like to do it is the colors would so match up with the page, plus it show's the pride some guys have in their trucks. Think I'll just do it, and quit worrying.

WOTD: Yesterday...Albicant...Whitish, becoming white.
..............To-day:...Cabotage (think freight)

QOTD:...You wake up in the morning and don't know the person next to you.

See you later to-day.

Here is the promised picture that the old white lady was kind enough to let me use. That is what she calls herself, but I don't, I call her a friend. She is also an intelligent, witty person, that is'nt afraid to do a little Bush-Whackin'.

Besides the wonderful colors, this made me think of autumn as it applies to every living thing. From birth to death each life goes through phases, and to those of us in the autumn of our lifes that picture shows the peace and serenity that only comes in this stage. So don't be afraid of aging, you'll still be full of inner beauty.

Morning folks. While doing the cross-word just now with my toast and coffee I came across a clue, "Professional Rubber", that made me think. Like, how good do you have to be to use one of those? Is there a test? Wow, talk about bringing a man up "short"! When I worked out the answer, "Masseuse", even the big fella seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

While truckin' around the blogging community yesterday I stopped at one of my bud's place and saw a photo that took my breath away with it's natural beauty. Not only that but the colors would so match this page. So I sent a note asking permission to put it up here and not only was given permission but was thanked for wanting to do it. How great is that? So, if you can, come back later, you won't be disappointed. I'll provide a link, and a few words, about the person.

With Hurricane Wilma looking like it's going to hit Florida on the week-end I wonder if the federal response will be any quicker than it was in the Gulf states? Yeah right!

Speaking of things political, (who, me?) things have'nt been going real well for Chimpy McFlightSuit lately. Looks like the chickens are finally coming home to roost. Thousands of lives, and billions of dollars, I'd say it's about damn time.

Still on Florida, I've been thinking lately of taking a trip down to Key West, after the hurricane season of course. Sit on the beach wearing a pair of shorts, exposing my knobby knees, an old straw hat, an industrial strength Margarita, listening to Jimmy Buffet music! Who knows, some old girl with blue hair and a purple poodle might come along and join me. could even be someone that worked as a "Professional Rubber". Lose the dog, rinse the hair, and let's get it on!

Lighten up folks, just having a bit of fun, but the trip is a definite possibility. Hey, I just realized, with a "harem" the size of mine, I don't need to sit and wait for ol' blue-hair. Hmm.

Now to work. Don't forget to come back later.

WOTD: Melomania--Craze for music
To-day's: Albicant (think color)

QOTD: You have accidentally forwarded a personal e-mail message to the company president.

Morning folks. I'd like to welcome a couple of new "friends" who have come here via this lady. I'm sure it won't be long before the quotations marks will be removed when I refer to Monica and Jude. Before I start getting teased some more about my"harem" I should assign them real macho pseudonyms to comment under, like Spike or Bruiser. NOT!

Speaking of "this lady", she is making me jealous. In helping me find some properties to look at in the Kootenays she found the great picture that she has on her page to-day. I've always prided myself with knowing my way around the country, but she's finding places that I did'nt know existed, and I love it.

I have subscribed to one of our major newspapers for a long time, but was getting fed up with their way of treating subscribers like me. Every time the subscription came up for renewal, every 4 months, there would be a price increase. Fair enough, that's the way of the world anymore. But not once did they try to justify it, just here's the new price, period. I had had enough so I contacted them and told them not to renew. Even a mealy-mouthed excuse would have done, but I was tired of being treated like that. So, lo and behold, in the mail yesterday was an offer to renew my subscription for less than half of what I had been paying. That so pixxed me off that I would'nt take the damn thing if it was free. With their circulation in the hundreds of thousands think about the amount of money involved. Grrr!

Okay, enough whining, down to business.

Morning folks. Perhaps it's the soothing colors of this latest attempt at finding a layout that I'm comfortable with that did it, but I actually slept last night. Instead of getting up at the ridiculous time of 1 or 2 am I did'nt crawl out of my lair until 4 am. Slacker! In case you're wondering, I usually turn in about 10 pm. Too many years of getting by on 3 or 4 hours of sleep on the road, can't seem to break the pattern. Perhaps if I had a reason to stay in bed, hmmm.

While it was nice to see the Goob showing up yesterday, I'm amazed at the lengths to which she will go to come up with another lame excuse to not provide me with the promised, and famed, Polish Wodka. This time it was being admitted to hospital with a severe asthma attack. Sheesh!
Seriously Goob, we're all glad you're on the mend, you scared us. I thought it was kind of cute the way you worked in the "nippage" in your comment. What a Prevert!

Another bud showed up yesterday safe and sound from his Caribbean cruise. Seriously, can you look us in the eye, interneterly (what?), and tell us you deserve to be living that high on the hog?

In transferring everything over to this layout it was not possible to save the comments from the last page. Somehow the sun will continue to rise in the East so I guess we'll be alright.

I've come to enjoy putting up a nattering type of post in the morning, then later in the day a picture that I hope you enjoy. Because I've been thinking of moving to a more peaceful, relaxed, area, the Kootenays, I'll stick a few pics of that area up as I did yesterday with the lane. That particular property has two homes on it, hmmm, room for my "harem"? Would be nice if one or more of my sons and family come to visit to have a guest house for them.

I've got to be careful to not get ahead of myself with thoughts, and plans, of moving. I've still got Timmy to deal with. I have my next appointment with the specialist in about 5 weeks, and will also be seeing a neuro-surgeon to discuss Gamma-Knife surgery. Not sure I'm a suitable candidate, but I'm hoping. Still it's nice to have enough life left in me to at least dream of a better place to spend my days.

WOTD......Albocracy (think South Africa)
QOTD...You think that a family member killed someone.

See ya'll later, eh? (Cross-Border Diplomacy)

Super Dave has a link to some folks in Virginia that spent 5,000 hours and $200,000 to design a cannon to shoot a pumpkin nearly a mile. Hell, if I had known that I could have whittled them one of these.

What do you think folks, don't this pretty? Both the new layout and the lane into a piece of property I'll be going up to look at soon. With my research assistant's help I've got 8 or 10 properties to check out. She's got a good eye for what I'm looking for over in the Kootenays.

As for the page the credit goes to my right-hand. If I was to go into all the help she's given me, and continues to give, I'd run out of space. Little wonder I sometimes refer to her as my Huggy Bear. Incidentally she's going in for surgery this week so let's keep the good thoughts.

This is my first post on this new page, so with fingers crossed.........

Morning folks. Hope the new font size makes the page a little easier to read. You guys are too nice to say anything but I felt the previous was just a bit small. If the page had content of matter that would also make it easier to read, but as long as it stays within the boundaries of reasonably good taste I can live with it, and hope you can too. That's it for the nattering, being Sunday let's do a Robert Service poem.

REPENTANCE

"If you repent," the Parson said,
"Your sins will be forgiven.
Aye, even on your dying bed
You're not too late for Heaven."

That's just my cup of tea, I thought,
Though for my sins I sorrow;
Since salvation is easy bought
I will repent...to-morrow.

To-morrow and to-morrow went,
But though my youth was flying,
I was reluctant to repent,
Having no fear of dying.

'Tis plain, I mused, the more I sin,
(To Satan's jubilation)
When I repent the more I'll win
Celestial approbation.

So still I sin, and though I fail
To get snow-whitely shriven,
My timings good: I hope to hail
The last bus up to Heaven.

We'll pick up the W&QOTD's to-morrow.

Any truth to this ladies? Just asking.

Dan married one of a pair of identical twins. Less than a year later, he was in court filing for a divorce. "OK," the judge said, "Tell the court why you'd like a divorce." "Well, your honor," Dan started, "Every once in awhile my sister-in-law would come over for a visit, and because she and my wife are so identical-looking, occasionally I'd end up making love to her by mistake." "Surely there must be some difference between the two women," the judge said. "You'd better believe there's a difference, your honor. That's why I want the divorce," he replied.

Mother Superior calls all the nuns together and says to them, "I must tell you all something. We have a case of gonorrhea in the convent." "Thank God," says an elderly nun at the back of the room, "I'm so tired of Chardonnay."

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl, "Will you marry me?" The girl said, "No." And the guy lived happily ever after and went golfing and fishing a lot. The end.

A young couple, just married, were in their honeymoon suite on their wedding night. As they were undressing for bed, the husband who was a big burly man tossed his pants to his bride and said, "Here, put these on." She put them on and the waist was twice the size of her body. "I can't wear your pants, "she said. "That's right," said the husband, and don't you ever forget it. I'm the man who wears the pants in this family." With that, she flipped him her panties and said' "Try these on." He tried them on and found he could only get them on as far as his kneecaps. "Hell," he said. "I can't get into your panties!" She replied, "That's right, and that's the way it's going to be until your attitude changes!"

Two little old ladies were attending a rather long church service. One leaned over and whispered, "My butt is going to sleep." "I know," replied her companion, "I heard it snore three times."

WOTD: Yesterday, Uxorcide. Answer...killing of one's own wife.
To-day: Zug(think dry feet)

QOTD: Your ex-spouse sends you an invitation to his/her wedding.

A good motto for all of us!

Morning folks. Well, you working people that help keep the wheels on this cart we call society have made it through another week. I know there are times when you wonder if you'll ever see the day when it will be "your time". Don't be in a hurry, I'm there now and it's not all it's cracked up to be. Being wanted and needed, a part of things, is much better than watching the world go by, and the calendar pages flipping. I don't have the blues this morning, but I would gladly trade my life now for the one I had when I would walk in the door, dog-tired, and the kids would yell "Daddy's home". I watch my grandchildren get excited when their Dad's come home and it brings back great memories. "Your time" will come sooner than you think, so prepare.

Karen is going in for a pre-op ultra-sound to-day so let's all hope the results show that she won't need full-blown surgery, just a less invasive type.

Vickie put a post up yesterday that I felt should be required reading. I also felt that any comment from me would just detract from it, because it is more than capable of standing on it's own.

Dave will be coming back from the Caribbean so we'll have to listen to the stories of the fine food and drink, the beautiful beaches, yada yada. Just teasing bud, looking forward to hearing of your vacation.

Hoss's bud, Peter, from down under, has an amazing bunch of photos on his Flickr page (photostream). Well worth your checking out.

Still on photos, there is a couple from Vancouver that are circumnavigating the Earth by human power. 42,000 kms (26,000 miles) by foot, oar, ski, and bicycle. Their home site is here, photos here, videos here, and numerous press articles here.

WOTD: Yesterday's, Aquiline...Hooked like an eagle's beak.
To-day's...Uxorcide (careful guys!)

QOTD... In an argument you know you are wrong but are already too far along to admit it.

Morning folks. I notice that I forgot to title yesterday's offering, so that little faux pas will no longer be a concern, going back to numbering them. As I said at the last site, I'm all over the map so a title does'nt mean anything. So there!

Speaking of maps, nice segue, while visiting Ol' Hoss yesterday I clicked open a link he provided to one of his buds. Funny stuff! Especially this post. Those of you who have'nt been around to see Hoss are missing out on a great site. He's proof that there is life after death.

I've been talking about moving over to the south-east part of the province, the Kootenays. While this home is waaay out of my price range, if you click around that site you'll see the absolute beauty of the area.

Just had an interesting phone call from one of my ol' trucker buds, Woody. At 3:30 am, my time, phone rings; "Good Morning" "Bob, you're still alive!" Turns out he had met a guy at the truck stop that told him I had gone on to my just rewards. Checked my pulse just in case, yep, still here. Woody's in Toronto after hauling a load of Hewlitt-Packard products there from Sacramento, or "sack o' tomatoes" as we call it. Later to-day he's loading truck suspensions for Freightliner in Portland Oregon. We had a nice phone visit and a few laughs but I've got to admit that while I really enjoy hearing from my ol' buds, it really makes me realize how much I miss that life. It's a different "truck", but this computer allows me to still travel around the blogging community. Fuel is a lot cheaper too, so I'm doing okay.

Enough nattering, let's get to work:

WOTD...yesterday's, Kip. Unit of weight(1000lbs) Good one Karen.
To-day's...Aquiline (think honker)

QOTD...Your boss catches you looking at nude pictures on the internet.

Morning folks. Those of you that stop by regularly have seen how I like to put interesting photos up. Some are funny, some colorful, some help to tell whatever I'm trying to tell, but most are just "filler". I enjoy this blogging, and when I don't have anything in particular to say, go to Plan B and stick a picture up. If some of you enjoy them that's great, but if some find them annoying, just humor me.

Yesterday one of my buds provided a link to a site that will keep me in "filler" for a long, long time. These are professional quality photos that I hope you guys enjoy because I know I will. I feel a little sheepish about putting other people's work up, but will give due credit where possible. Thanks so much Sue!

Also yesterday I mentioned how our beautiful little sea-side community was becoming a forest of high-rises. The latest plan involves tearing down a small, friendly "mall", and a handful of small stores, to be replaced with 4 towers containing 412 condos, shops, and sidewalk cafes. I put mall in quotations because 4 or 5 big-trucks would fill the parking lot. The towers will be 14, 17, 17, and 19 stories high. So another 8oo or so people to fill the streets that are already over-full. I'm guessing the units will be in the $300K range, in a town that I bought my first house for $13K in '65. Has my income gone up 2300%?, yeah right!

Booper's sister is recovering nicely from her brain surgery, and is just waiting for biopsy results from the the tumor that was removed before being discharged from hospital. She required a lot of care before the surgery and now probably even more. To give his Mom a break, our son Brian is flying her over to Alberta next week-end to spend some time with 2 of our grand-children. I'm not going because we want this to be her time, she's wore ragged lately.

I'm still thinking seriously of moving "up country", and to that end our son Bob is gathering a bunch of information for me over in the south-east part of the province where he's working. He'll send pictures etc., so that saves me a lot of travelling around. Who knows, maybe one day soon I'll be able to put a sign over the lane into my place saying "El Rancho No Gotto". One can dream.

WOTD: Yesterday's...Gig--Light two-wheeled, one-horse carriage.
To-day's...Kip ( think heavy )

QOTD: You're second to last in line and there is only one more serving left.

Be nice to somebody to-day!

Morning folks. It never fails, every time I feel half-human I get itchy feet. The last few days Timmy has been behaving and oh my, do I ever have a case of wanderlust. As Vickie said in her post yesterday, the road was yanked out from under me also, and I miss it a lot. While I enjoy driving this "truck", I miss the hell out of the one sitting there on the right. I'm blessed with great family and friends, but the highway truly was my home.

This time it's even more than a bad case of "white-line fever", I'm thinking of going up country and buying a little acreage, perhaps, and moving away from this town I've lived in for 40 years. This was such a great place to raise the family but our wonderful little ocean-side community is fast becoming a forest of high-rises. I've long maintained that progress is not necessarily always good and we're seeing the truth in that now. The developers move in, ruin the landscape with their ugly-assed buildings, grab the money, and run.

Because of my age, and Timmy, I realistically am never going to enjoy the open road as I did most of my life, but I can make an effort to enjoy open spaces. This is a wonderful province with lots of great places to live, so why allow oneself to be hemmed in by grid-lock, far too many people, and all that that entails. Like million dollar homes and condos surrounding me. For that kind of money you should'nt have to meet your "neighbor" in the hall-way every time you take your garbage down to the dumpster. Might be better to leave with great memories than to turn sour and start finding fault with everything.

While thinking of these things the last few days I realized that if I was to move, it would have to be to a place where I could have internet connection. Hate to admit it, not really, but this computer, blogging, etc. has become a part of my life. I've got an area in mind and that won't be a problem, so I could have the best of both worlds. Of course there are a lot more things to consider, like access to medical care, shopping, etc. but a little home-work will help with that.

Enough nattering, let's quit day-dreaming and get down to business.

WOTD: Yesterday..Clinomania. Answer..excessive desire to stay in bed.
To-day's:...Gig (think transportation)

QOTD: You are just about to be introduced to someone and you sneeze into your hands without a tissue.

Have a good 'un folks.

How lame is this? What's next, a picture of your laundry hamper? Sheesh!

In my regular post below I mentioned buying a new chair yesterday and someone e-mailed and said "let's have a look". Well, ta-da! It's a nice enough chair but a little pricey. $307.69 with taxes and warranty. Imagine buying a warranty for a **** chair. Don't look at the carpet or you'll see that I don't move the furniture when I vacuum. Since Martha Stewart does'nt drop by, I've been getting away with it. I've got to get a life!

Morning folks. With this being our Thanksgiving day here in Canada, and watching the latest natural disaster in Pakistan, I realize how thankful I am to live in a part of the world where things like hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc. etc. are not common occurrences. There are parts of the province where forest fires are a problem, but living here in White Rock, by the ocean, even they don't affect me. For those things, among many others, I am truly thankful.

While certainly not a natural disaster, I see the Denver area starting the week off with up to 18" of snow this morning. Going to be a long winter! Sure glad I'm not heading west on I-70 with a full load to-day. Been there, done that. No thank you.

With Booper's sister recovering in hospital from brain surgery, Brian and his family in Alberta, we put Thanksgiving on the back-burner this year. Xmas has always been the important holiday for us, hopefully by then things are better as far as celebrating.

Finally broke down and bought myself a new chair yesterday. With the gas cylinder going on the other one, after about two sentences I had to look up to see the keyboard. Might as well have just sat on the floor. I mistakenly thought that buying a more expensive chair meant a better set of hardware under there. Au contraire, this executive chair has the same cylinder. Should have done my homework, I could have bought 4 of the others for the price of this one. Oh well.

It's apparent to even me that all I'm doing is nattering, so let's do the words now and maybe I can come back later to-day with something more cogent, or perhaps I can find a picture you might enjoy. God, you're such a demanding bunch! ;-)

Last WOTD: ceratoid. Meaning: shaped like a horn, horny.
To-day's WOTD: clinomania. (think monday mornings)

QOTD: You see a penny on the ground.

Have a decent day guys!

Morning folks. A lot of you know of my love for Robert Service poems, mainly because of his ballads of the Yukon, where my heart lives. The following shows that he was far from a one-trick pony.

I pawned my sick wife's wedding ring,
To drink and make myself a beast.
I got the most that it would bring,
Of golden coins the very least.
With stealth into her room I crept
And stole it from her as she slept.

I do not think that she will know,
As in it's place I left a band
Of brass that has a brighter glow
And gleamed upon her withered hand.
I do not think that she can tell
The change-she does not see too well.

Pray God, she does'nt find me out.
I'd rather far I would be dead.
Yet yesterday she seemed to doubt,
And looking at me long she said:
"My finger must have shrunk, because
My ring seems bigger than it was."

She gazed at it so wistfully,
And one big tear rolled down her cheek.
Said she: "You'll bury it with me..."
I was so moved I could not speak.
Oh wretched me! How whiskey can
Bring out the devil in a man!

And yet I know she loves me still,
As on the morn that we were wed;
And darkly guess I also will
Be doomed the day that she is dead.
And yet I swear, before she's gone,
I will retrieve her ring from pawn.

I'll get it though I have to steal,
Then when to ease her bitter pain
They give her sleep oh I will feel
Her hand and slip it on again;
Through tears her wasted face I'll see,
And pray to God: "Oh pity me!"

(We'll pick up the Q&WOTD's to-morrow)

Morning folks. You'll notice my truck on the right, looking like I had always intended. Because it is powered by a CAT engine, and to make sense out of the title of this post, it will forever be referred to as my Purple Pussy Powered Peter Puller. Oh, lighten up!

Women are always complaining that us guys don't pay enough attention to them and their likes and dislikes. Au contraire, mon cherie:

While attending a marriage seminar dealing with communication, Tom and his wife Grace listened to the instructor, "It is essential that husbands and wives know each other's likes and dislikes." He addressed the man, "Can you name your wife's favorite flower?" Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently and whispered, "It's Pillsbury, isn't it?

Of course men think that women don't know, or care, about cars as long as it gets them to the mall. Whoa, big fella:

A blonde pushes her BMW into a gas station. She tells the mechanic, "It died." After he works on it for a few minutes, it's idling smoothly. She says, "What's the story?" He replies, "Just crap in the carburetor." She says, "How often do I have to do that?"

Here in B.C. our teachers just went on strike, again. Without passing judgement, but as a way of showing how I feel about unions sometimes, here's one last groaner:

A union boss at a convention in Las Vegas decides to visit a brothel. He asks the madam, "Is this a union house?" "No, I'm sorry, it isn't," she says. "Well, if I pay $100, what do the girls get?" he asks. "The house gets $80 and the girl gets $20." Offended by such unfair dealings, the man stomps off in search of a more equitable shop. Finally, he reaches a brothel where the madam says, "Why yes, this is a union house." "And if I pay $100, what do the girls get?" he asks. "The girls get $80 and the house gets $20." "That's more like it!" the man says. He looks around the room and points to a gorgeous young redhead. "I'd like her for the night." "I'm sure you would, sir," says the madam, gesturing at a 70-year-old woman in the corner, "But Ethel here has seniority."

QOTD: You are in the car on a first date and really have to cut one.

WOTD: Yesterday's answer...craving for strange foods.
To-day's.........Ceratoid (Think Bill Clinton)

There is a person on here who is, normally, a pleasant person. At times almost funny, in fact. However yesterday she did something that made me wonder if she is back on the sauce. In making an appreciated comment here she called me a, gasp, PERV. Now I will admit to being a bonafide PREVERT, but absolutely not a PERVERT.

I sent my crack investigative team out to see if she was into her beloved Polish Wodka, aka "porch-climber". Sure enough, in a catatonic state.

In an effort to wean her off the "pant-remover", I found one of her old baby bottles that should help. In time we hope to replace the contents with apple juice that should stop the angry outbursts. Hang in Goob, we're here for you.

The above message was approved by the Goobernator (I hope!).

Morning folks. I chose that acronym for a title to-day because a certain somebody is probably whooping those letters right now. First the spoiled brat shows up with a beauty of a 'Vette, then rubs our noses in it with his own wine blog, now it's off to the Caribbean for a week. Sheesh! What's next bud, are you going to fess up to impregnating Tom Cruise's love-child? That little twit does'nt have the cajones to have a pregnant thought.

Yes Margaret, the WOTD's are real words. So as to dispel any thoughts that I actually might have a brain, I must admit that they will be coming from a web-site that was pointed out to me by someone that believes that Life Is Simply Good. That statement on it's own is great, but when you realize the author is living with MS, it's meaning is even more special.

You guys down there in Murka have got to stop picking on Commander Play-Station. Now the poor folks in NYC have to be fearful to ride the subways while he tries to restore his smirk and swagger. Homeland Security claims to not know anything about it, but then again they did'nt know anything about any pesky hurricanes.

I have never been a conspiracy theorist, but after watching something on CNN one day my interest was definitely piqued. I Googled, heh, and came up with this site. If you can, spend some time there, the photos alone are worth the visit. As to the possibilities of the subject matter, I believe there is something there. Keep an open mind. I recommend "A Pilot's View".

I'll probably be back with another post or two during the day so there is no point in tiring my "pecker" on this one. I'm fast becoming a blogomaniac! I guess it's true, small things amuse small minds.

To-day's QOTD was suggested by Huggy:

You are on the first day of a new job that you really need and want. You notice that your boss has the worst rug/toupe' that you have ever seen.

WOTD: Yesterday's answer....one who nibbles on women's ear lobes. You guys were good on that one!

To-day's: Allotriophagy. (Think pregnancy)

Have a decent day. That's an order!

I'm using this picture that my son Bob just sent me to help give the up-date on things here at home as promised in to-day's regular post below. First the not-so-good part:

Booper's sister had brain surgery Tuesday morning to remove a malignant tumor. While the operation was successful they are now trying to find where else in her body the cancer is. Because my tumor is inoperable I'm so glad that it is benign, so far.

Many of you ask how I'm doing health-wise, which I appreciate a lot, and that's where the picture comes in.

My son Bob, in his position as Operations Manager for our privatized Department of Highways has gone over to the south-eastern part of the province, the Kootenays, to work his magic or, I suspect, to kick some butt! He'll be there for 6 months, flying home every second week-end for 3 days. You'll notice he takes the magnetic signs, and roof-top strobe lights off his pick-up so he can travel around incognito. I'd hate to be the worker having a little snooze if he shows up.

He told me that when he saw the log home along the river he immediately thought of me and my love of that life-style. It's that kind of thing that helps me so much in coping with Timmy when he gets to kicking my butt. None of us want to go before our time but when I think of what I've accomplished in my life as to family, career, and now part of this blogging community, I feel content. My life has not been a waste. I am not at all sad, just the opposite. Since I was given 6 to 8 months in July 02 and I'm still here ruffling feathers, well, don't cry for me Argentina. I'm doing plumb fine, thank you!

Thanks for listening, we now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Morning folks. 24 short hours ago I sat down here at the computer with absolutely no idea of what would take place in that period of time. I have had such a bitter taste in my mouth lately over the way things were going that I seriously wondered about the wisdom of continuing. No more wondering, I'm back, and glad to be here.

I had no conscious thought yesterday morning of starting this page, it just happened. Almost spooky, but maybe it was meant to be. Judging by the wonderful welcome back I got, it's very possible. I've said it many times and I'll say it again, I so much appreciate the support and encouragement you guys give me.

Now that I've separated the wheat from the chaff I'm looking forward to getting back to the way it was for a while. Since my "pecker" is rested maybe it's time for another Robert Service poem. In time I would also like to start another round of GWF. For the uninitiated, that's Guest Writer Friday. Also some truckin' stories, some humor, of course some Bush-whackin', QOTD, and a new feature: the WOTD. Each day I'll give you a word to guess the meaning of, and answer if you can, and I'll provide the answer the following post.

I'll give you an update on the home-front later to-day, but in the mean-time let's dive in:

The QOTD to-day is an honesty check:

You're selling your used car that has unidentifiable defects. (Humor allowed)

WOTD: Gynotikolobomassophile. (Think nuzzling)

One of the many things that, in hindsight, I could have handled better when I deleted all personal blogs while sorting through the mess, was to save them. Don't bother parsing that sentence Margaret, I know it's bad. Big whup!

So far I've got 13 of you back on, with more to come. So if you've found yourself here and don't see your link, have patience. This was all brought about (the links) by a certain ol' codger in Orrygun, that I have a message for:

The Bible gives us three score and ten, which means you're 5 years past your "best before date". Any more nit-picking out of you and I'll come down there and stamp your "dance card" As in last dance!

Now let's go forth, and those that can, multiply. Smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

Alright, poodle lady, eat your heart out. This is my grand-daughter Sarah's dog. Brought in as a stray, showered with tender loving care, and Ta-Da!

Don't mind me folks, just test-driving my new "truck".

Morning folks. As the title suggests the aim of this new site will be to "Keep It Simple Stupid". It was a friend that suggested that theme and I agree with him. Of course being a true friend, now that he has caused me to sweat 5 gallons of blood building this new site he's taking off for the Caribbean for a week. Sheesh!

Kidding aside, I'm glad he prompted me. It was not near as daunting as I feared. Quite simple really. When I think of all the grief I've had the past while with the other site, it makes me realize that perhaps I am back a wiser person. At least now I can post a picture how, and when I want without paying someone to mess it up for me. Oops, getting a little whiny.

One of the first things I'm going to do is get me a big stick, because I've got some Bush-whackin' to do. I can get away with it for now because nobody knows about this place. Sort of like giving a speech in an empty auditorium, so let 'er rip!

Seriously I'm just nattering away here getting used to the fact that I have a new blog that I, and I alone, built. Kinda neat.

See ya later. Hello, anybody there?
