Wednesday, October 31, 2007 Morning folks. I'm sure that most of you, if not all, have experienced what I'm going through at the moment. I've been sitting here staring at a blank page trying to get the creative juices flowing, and although I've got the tap fully open there is not a drop coming out. Oh well, thank heavens for natterin'. Yesterday was a good day for me, except for one major glitch, that being told that the bus to Parker is once again full. Damn! I phoned when I was told to, so, short of camping on their doorstep, I don't think I want to play this game anymore. The best they could offer was to put me on standby for next week. As I told the lady, I could walk there and back quicker than this nonsense, hell it's been 2 weeks already. But it wasn't all bad. I now have a post office box, got a hair cut, and was offered a ride, which I gladly accepted, around to a few places to get my shopping done. This morning on my water walk I'll check with that vendor, because I still haven't heard from his friend with the jeep. I did locate a full-grown Chrysler car yesterday that seemed okay, but when he finally managed to get the engine started, I beat a hasty retreat. Sheesh, I've sounded better after a night on cheap wine. Well, even for natterin', this is getting boring so I think I'll take my leave and not subject you guys to any more of it. Guess it's time to put the camera to work. Hope you're all well. Thanks for stopping by. Trucker Bob blogged at 3:33 AM | Tuesday, October 30, 2007 Morning folks. Here's hoping it finally starts to cool here a bit as forecast, because frankly the past few days have been just a bit much. Hard to believe, but they're predicting that by a week from tomorrow we'll have a high of 70 and a low of 39. YES! It got up to 98 yesterday but you could have put a 1 in front of it by the way it felt because of the cloud cover. As for buying a set of wheels I think I've come up with the best of both worlds. I learned through one of the vendors of a fellow with a jeep for sale, so now I'm waiting for him to either call or bring it around. If it's at all reasonable I'll buy it because I can use it as a car, and head out to the hills scoutin' around. The owner is a friend of the vendor, so I'm hoping things move along quickly. This morning I'm taking my application back to the Post Office to get a box. I was there last Thursday ready to fill it out but they needed a copy of my lease here at the park, so I was told to bring it in today. Also today I will be ensuring that I have a seat on the bus up to Parker on Thursday. (be nice if I had a jeep by then) Since it's been too hot to cook inside, and I still haven't bought a barbeque, I've been living on dried palm leaves, rabbit hair, and quail feathers. But then the light upstairs went on yesterday and I realized I've got a great slow-cooker and power outlets on the outside of the Bear. D'oh! So today I'll be buying some form of dead animal, throw it and a bunch of veggies in, and by dinner time I'll be chowing down big time. On second thought I'll probably wait until I get up to Parker because the meat here leaves a lot to be desired, and don't get me started on the produce. I guess it's because of the low year-round population, and the RVers being seasonal, but I wonder why a major chain hasn't built here. Well, that should fill my natterin' quotient for today. Soon as the sun comes up I'll go out and check my traps, who knows, might be enough for brekky. See ya later guys. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:41 AM | Monday, October 29, 2007 Morning folks. Well, off we go on another week in this adventure called life. I'm sitting here thinking just how much of an adventure my life truly has been in the last six months, with hopefully much more to come. The flesh on occasion gets weak, but the spirit is as strong as ever, and for that I am truly thankful. With cooler temps forecast I'm planning on getting around a bit more, because frankly it's been just a bit too hot lately. Oddly enough I really don't miss having a vehicle in general, but with the absolute lack of shopping available here, it will be nice once I find something to be able to run up to places like Parker etc. But for now I'm doing okay. Still undecided as to whether to sit here for the winter or take a trip over Texas way, but there's lots of time for that. I'll probably stay here because it's taken a while to get all my services in place, in fact that's still ongoing, so why waste all that time just to do it all over again somewhere else. But if I end up buying a car instead of an ATV, which I really don't want to do, I could travel a bit with it. For now though I'm content where I am. Doing lots of reading, and now that the weather is going to cool, looking forward to doing some 'sploring. What a graveyard of stories this place is, just hope mine isn't added to them, because there's lots of living left for me to do. Okay guys, have a good week, and take care of yourselves. See ya tomorrow. Trucker Bob blogged at 3:07 AM | Sunday, October 28, 2007
Morning folks. So how is everything down at your end of the melon patch? The weather finally started to cool a bit here yesterday, in fact we even had a little cloud cover. With the sun partially blocked, even at 94F it was pleasant, enough so that I got 2 walks in. I'm not quite back to where I was 2 years ago when I was on that health kick, but each day I'm out there working at it. Speaking of health, I was almost back to being able to do my "business" without screaming like a banshee when another stone showed up. This one thankfully was much smaller, but it still brings a high-pitched yodel. Because of the heat here I'm of course drinking lots of water, so its been pretty melodious around the Bear the past few days. To the uninitiated it might sound like I'm strangling a cat in here, but anyone, especially male, that has ripped up the drain pipe knows what it's like. Now to Dixie. I'm more convinced than ever I did the right thing by her by finding her that home in the country in Clinton. The little darlin' just loved running in the grass, and of course there is absolutely not a blade of it around here. To bring her down here, when she hated travelling to begin with, to lay on a hot concrete slab at the end of a chain would have been cruel. There are, I'm told, 50 sites in this park, and other than the manager's dog that hardly ever comes out of the house, there is not another dog to be seen. The last time I saw her she was where an active dog should be, having free rein on her little estate, not tied up in the heat. As much as I hated to see her go, I'm equally as glad that she's where she belongs. Not much planned this week other than shopping around for an ATV. Found a few more in the local buy-and-sell type paper, in fact I've signed on to their website, so hopefully it will work out soon. The other thing of course is to get my TV turned on. As soon as I get that accomplished I've got a satellite dish lined up, then I'm all set. Phone, Internet, water tank, and soon (I hope) transportation. But in the meantime there's always shank's pony. Hope your weekend is going well, and I'll probably find something to natter about tomorrow. A FAVOR
A young woman on a flight from Mexico asked the priest beside her, "Father, may I ask a favor?" "Of course, what may I do for you?" the priest replied. "Well, I bought an expensive hair dryer for my mother's birthday. It's unopened and over my customs limits. I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there any way you could carry it through for me? Under your robes, perhaps?" "I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you, I will not lie," said the devout man. "With your honest face, Father, no one will question you." When they reached the customs area, she let the priest go ahead of her. The official asked, "Father, do you have anything to declare?" "From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare." The official thought this answer strange, so asked, "And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?" "I have a marvelous instrument designed for a woman's use, but which is, to date, unused." The official said, "Go ahead, Father. Next." DANGER Upon entering the little country store, the stranger noticed a sign posted on the glass door saying, "Danger! Beware of Dog!" Inside, he noticed a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor beside the cash register. He asked the store manager, "Is that the dog folks are supposed to beware of?" "Yep, that's him," he replied. The stranger couldn't help but be amused. "That certainly doesn't look like a dangerous dog to me. Why in the world would you post that sign?" "Because," the owner replied, "before I posted that sign, people kept tripping over him." LICENSE An immigrant went to the DMV to apply for a driver's license. First, of course, he had to take an eye test. The optician showed him a card with the letters, "C-Z-W-I-X-N-O-S-T-A-C-Z." "Can you read this?" the optician asked. "Read it?" the guy replied, "I know the guy." PARTY GIRL John receives a phone call. "Hello," he answers. The voice on the other end says, "This is Susan. We met at a party about three months ago." John says, "Susan? About three months ago?" Susan says, "Yes, it was at Bill's house. After the party you took me home. On the way we parked and got into the back seat. You told me I was a good sport." John says, "Oh, yeah. Susan! How are you?" Susan replies, "I'm pregnant by you and I'm going to kill myself." John says, "Say, you really ARE a good sport!" POOR DOGGIE After hearing a shot, Hank ran next door and found his friend Tony crying. "Say, what's wrong?" Hank asked. Tony sobbed, "I had to shoot my dog." Hank said, "My God! Was he mad?" Tony replied, "Well, he wasn't exactly overjoyed." SHEEP DOG BRA The success of the "Wonder Bra" for under-endowed women, has encouraged the designers to come out with a bra for over-endowed women. It's called the "Sheep Dog Bra." It rounds them up and points them in the right direction. VET VISIT Bert took his dog to the vet. "Doctor," he said sadly, "I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to cut off my dog's tail." The vet stepped back, "Bert, why should I do such a terrible thing?" Bert replied, "Because my mother-in-law's arriving tomorrow, and I don't want anything to make her think she's welcome." Trucker Bob blogged at 3:35 AM | Friday, October 26, 2007 Morning folks, and thank you! Especially to my little babushka for the great job she did on the graphics. I'm glad I wasn't able to embiggen the moonies, that might have been just a tad much. I never did get up to Parker, I was told almost at the last moment that the bus was full. Since I'm pretty well stocked with food etc, that part didn't bother me, but I so wanted to buy a universal remote for my TV in the hopes that I can turn it on after my little boo-boo with the on/off button. I also wanted to shop for an ATV, because I've about given up on finding a suitable beater around here. The more I see them running around here, the more sense they make for me. I could do my shopping etc, but also go off into the desert and ride the trails. Find a little trailer for it and take it back north with me in the spring. Having never bought one I really don't know what to expect price-wise, but if I can find one that's reasonable I'll probably buy it. As for what I did to celebrate the big day, well, what I do most days. Walked up town, did my chores, and spent a relaxing day here. Besides, it was too hot to do much, 106F at noon. In fact I never even had a cold one, there's still 25 left in the 30-pack I bought 2 weeks ago. The Bear ain't exactly party central. One thing I did enjoy though was the phone calls, very nice. The heat doesn't bother me too much, besides it will start cooling soon. I'm still not running the A/C, but the shower sure gets used. So here I am, all clean, chores done, and boring. After the life I've led I'm enjoying every minute of the boredom. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow that I've been here, and with the truck that would have meant about 12,000 miles, but the Bear hasn't moved an inch. Yep, I can handle this. Once again, thank you all. I'll try to find some clean(er) jokes for tomorrow, and L'il Bear will be here on Sunday to talk about Dixie. Have a great weekend! Trucker Bob blogged at 2:54 AM | Wednesday, October 24, 2007 Thursday the 25th. is a special day for someone in this Blog Family! Guess who??? Yep, the OLD FART himself! Us Haremettes were planning on climbing inside a huge boithday cake and being sent to you, but the Post Office couldn't guarantee the icing wouldn't all melt before it got to you, and WE couldn't guarantee that the icing wouldn't all be eaten before it got to you. So we scratched that idea and instead we're sending you cyber boithday hugs instead. The cake looked something like this one but much bigger: However you celebrate your day, whatever you do to pass the time on your birthday Bob, if you DO end up like your fuzzy pal below, I hope you at least aren't hanging over tomorrow. There's no getting around the fact that you're not as young as you used to be, but not to worry you're still a spring chicken in our eyes. Hope you can outrun the candles though...... And now from all of us.................. .......a little Boithday Moon! With love on your birthday Bob, from all of us! Trucker Bob blogged at 5:02 PM | Morning folks. Thought I'd better pop in and let you know that all is well with me before my imposed exile. I was kind of hoping the "day" would pass without notice, because like a lot of people, men especially, I'm not comfortable being fussed over. Unless of course she's na......oh, wait, that's something else......never mind. Not sure what you-know-who has up her sleeve, but since I'm going up to Parker early in the morning, it will be sort of a surprise to see when I get back. Hey, I just thought of something. Since I gave her gold to Boop, this could be payback time. I'm doomed! Maybe I won't come back. At any rate it's great fun. These are the clamps I've been talking about. If I keep the awning taut it will stand quite a bit of wind, but with the top ones (both sides) being 10' off the ground you can see the need for a ladder. In looking at this picture of AWOL McSTAGGER you have to wonder if he's back on the sauce, or still on the sauce. There is absolutely nothing going on behind those eyes. Scary when you think that this is arguably the most powerful man on the planet. No less reliable a source than the International Red Cross confirms over a million dead Iraqis, with a further 3 million having fled their own country, not to mention the dead and wounded US servicepeople. Tell us why, you sock-puppet, you allowed your masters to manipulate you into perpetrating this tragedy upon humanity. No don't bother, it was for the oil. Since it's us common folk that pay for it in the end, why didn't you just buy it? But no, as with every other thing you've done in your sorry life, you've bankrupted your country's treasury, and world reputation. I hesitated posting this rant, but with his handlers egging him on to start yet another war, this time with Iran, that would probably turn nuclear, the little guy has got to say, Enough! Sorry about that, but we now return to our regularly scheduled programming. Hope you're all well, and I'll see you in the Comments today, and when I return from Parker tomorrow. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:23 AM | Tuesday, October 23, 2007 Morning folks. Not much natterin' today, just wanted to check in. Feeling okay, but still a bit shakey from the weekend. The winds finally died down, so I dragged the ladder over, put the awnings back up, put 8 clamps on the big one, took the ladder back, and returned just in time for the winds to pick up. AARRGGHH! I mentioned that the water here is not the best, embiggen this to see what I mean. That crusty stuff on the vents of a swamp cooler that a fellow uses here in the park, because he doesn't have an A/C, is from the water. If I don't wipe my sinks dry with a paper towel after every use they look like they were painted white. As for your laundry, well, let's just say that you don't have to add much starch. Now you know why I ordered a tank from Yosemite. Hey Bill, check out this fishing rod. That must be a prehistoric fish on the line, because there's certainly no water in the river. I talked to the welder that built it, Upriver Dave, and it is just over 50' high. Here is one of the parks I mentioned looking for vendors. Since Dixie liked grass, I'm not sure she would have liked this stroll. This is for the people in the Park above. That's all for today folks. See ya tomorrow. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:11 AM | Monday, October 22, 2007 Morning folks. Well, it looks like I'll live to fight another round, feeling a lot better. But before the health gods were finished with me yesterday they had me spit out another kidney stone that made Saturday seem like a walk in the park. YOWW-WEEE! I don't think that was the reason I was feeling so lousy, just coincidence, but I was sort of expecting it because I've had a lot of discomfort in the nether region lately. I've lost count of the number of times it's happened, but it never gets any easier. Although painful, the scary part is the blood. These things are like chunks of quartz (another coincidence?), full of sharp edges that cut you up pretty badly. It usually takes a few days to heal up, so I'll be waiting until I'm almost ready to wet myself before going, because it's not pleasant. The poor ol' fella has been Roto-Rootered so many times that I'm surprised it still works. I had one analyzed at the lab at home once, and was told that it was calcium. I eat a normal diet so I don't know why my body stores it up so much, just like I don't know why my body produced so much of the growth hormone prolactin to form the tumor. There was a time when I lived on antacids (calcium), but I haven't used them in years, yet keep spittin' the stones out. That's probably more information than anyone needed, but since my life is an open book, and it is my site, you get it all here, the good, the bad, and the ugly. The winds did bring a relief from the heat, it only hit 82F yesterday, but they also brought the dust. Molly-Maids where are you when I need you. Everything in here is covered with a fine coat of grit. Oh well, I've got a good sheep's-wool duster, and a can of compressed air, so I can stay on top of it until the winds die down. I did go for a walk yesterday and found a fresh produce place that is just setting up, and which is only about half as far as the store I've been going to. Slowly all the vendors are getting ready for the season. Also noticing a few more CDN license plates, mainly BC. Okay guys, have a good week. Probably see ya tomorrow with some pictures. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:27 AM | Sunday, October 21, 2007 Morning folks. Little slow on the draw today, in fact wasn't going to show up at all, but figured that since I mentioned the l'il guy up there I'd better keep my word. Besides, I need something to snap me out of the way I feel. I've had my butt whupped and felt better than this, damn! I don't know whether you-know-who is testing me again, or I've overdone it with all the walking in the heat, but yesterday was not good. I seem to be coming out of it, but I'm going to lay low for a couple of days. I actually got dressed yesterday and thought I could walk it off, but my balance was kerblooey so I just hung around here all day. The heat yesterday didn't help but I think it was just because I wasn't feeling well. It stayed at 104F under the awning most of the day, then the winds came. Damn, it was like being in a blast furnace. I don't run the A/C that much because it stuffs me up, but the shower sure got used. The winds blew so hard in the night I'm almost afraid to see if the awnings made it. I did go out a couple of times and checked but finally just played out. If you're wondering why I didn't just put them up, it's because of the way I've got them secured. I would have had to get a ladder and remove the clamps I have securing the tarp part to the arms, and I just didn't have the jam. But the Bear was sure rockin' in the night, and you could have come a-knockin' because it wasn't me doing it. There, a couple of cups of joe, a couple of smokie-butts, a little hunt-and-pecking on here and I'm starting to come around a bit. Other than the heat part because of where I am, I go through this every once in a while, but as I've said before, it sure beats the alternative. 6-8 months indeed! If this little blip hadn't shown up I had planned to talk about Dixie today, but I can do that another time. Now I know I'm coming around, I'm hungrier than a rat, so I'm going to cook me up a big ol' breakfast. Ham steak, eggs, pan fries with grilled onions, and sliced tomatoes. YES! I'd better keep feeling better because that's a pile of dishes to clean up. Who knows, might even be able to have a nap before the heat returns. Amazing how therapeutic this blogging is for me. I went from feeling like something the cat coughed up to looking forward to chowing down big time. So enough natterin', I have some kitchen duties to attend to. Hope the rest of your weekend goes as well as mine seems to be shaping up to be. As always, thanks for stopping by, and thanks for being there to help me over these little humps. Warning: R-Rated The Journey of Man When I was 14, I hoped that one day I would have a girlfriend. When I was 16 I got a girlfriend, but there was no passion, so I decided I needed a passionate girl with a zest for life. In college I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional. Everything was an emergency; she was a drama queen, cried all the time and threatened suicide. So I decided I needed a girl with stability. When I was 25 I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so dull that I decided that I needed a girl with some excitement. When I was 28 I found an exciting girl, but I couldn't keep up with her. She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did mad impetuous things and made me miserable as often as happy. She was great fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. So I decided to find a girl with some real ambition. When I turned 31, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground and married her. She was so ambitious that she divorced me and took everything I owned. I am now older and wiser and looking for a girl with big tits. ORAL SEX A woman was in a coma. She had been in it for months. Nurses were in her room giving her a blanket bath. One of them was washing her private area and noticed that there was a slight response on the monitor when she touched her. They tried it again and sure enough there was sizeable movement. They went to her husband and explained what happened. "As crazy as this sounds," they said, "maybe a little oral sex will do the trick and bring her out of the coma." The husband was skeptical, but they assured him that they'd close the curtains for privacy. The husband finally agreed and went into his wife's room. After a few minutes the woman's monitor flat lined, no pulse, no heart rate. The nurses ran back into the room."What happened!?" they cried. The husband said, "I'm not sure, I think she choked." Interesting Health Fact Did you know that in the human body there is a nerve that connects the eyeball to the anus? It's called the Anal Optic Nerve, and it is responsible for giving people a shitty outlook on life. If you don't believe it, try to pull a hair from your arse and see if it doesn't bring a tear to your eyes. Massage man In a long line of people waiting for a bank teller, one guy suddenly started massaging the back of the person in front of him. Surprised, the man in front turned and snarled, "Just what the hell are you doing?" Well," said the guy, "You see, I'm a chiropractor and I could see that you were tense, so I had to massage your back. Sometimes I just can't help practicing my art!" "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!" the guy replied. "I work for Revenue Canada. Do you see me f**king the guy in front of me?" Blame Jim. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:05 AM | Friday, October 19, 2007 Morning folks. Well, another fruitful day on my walk yesterday. First, I signed up for a charter bus trip to Laughlin NV on Nov 15th. They'll pick me up here at my site, go up to the casinos, spend the day, and return to my site at 10pm. The cost? $15. Who needs a car? Also thinking about a day trip to the San Diego Zoo for $89, including admission. Then at the store, I lucked out again and got a ride back to the Bear, but far more importantly, I learned something that is going to save me about $300/month. I smoke cigarettes. I'm not particularly proud of it, nor am I particularly ashamed of it. I'm not convinced that they are worse than the diesel fumes I breathed for years, or the chemicals I hauled that would turn my skin red while unloading, or any other number of things we ingest. Or hauling crude oil with H2S gas in it that was so dangerous that you couldn't take a breath while around the vent pipe on your tank, because as I was taught on the course I took, you'll only get one good breath of it, when it's time for the next one you won't be breathing. You get bet your ass that when I got the load pumped on, the hoses and fittings put away, and truckin' for the pipeline, the first thing I did was fire one up, with a sigh of relief. At home I was paying $86/carton, and since they only allowed me 2 cartons from the Duty-Free store when I crossed the border, I was running low. So I started asking questions, and this is where the savings come in. I bought a 1-lb bag of tobacco, plus the tubes, enough to make 2 cartons of cigarettes for $19.99. I already have the little machine. So at a carton a week thats $40/month as opposed to $344. The fellow that told me about it let me try one and it was just another smokie-butt. Besides, my brain tumor has absolutely nothing to do with smoking, and so far that's my only health problem. Okay, pictures. This is the "river" that runs through town that I cross every day on my walk. You don't want to see some of the shortcuts I take. I've even been chased by a dog, thank God he cut it short. (Don't forget to embiggen these) This is just one of many, many parking lot vendors, and I'm told once the season starts they'll be wall-to-wall. I've even seen RV parks advertising for them to set up in their place. Here's some more savings for me, I'll be able to buy all the Haremettes some jewelry for Xmas. Except of course for the ones that take shots at me. Old Fart indeed! Now this park, with the paved street lined with palms, is admittedly nicer than the one I'm in. It's also $200/month more costly, for the same services I get here. Pretty, but no thanks. I found prices that run the gamut, from $94 to this one. I'm in the middle and satisfied. So there you have it, little natterin', walk around town, and the knowledge that all is plumb fine in my world. For those that can make it I'll have some Saturday Chuckles, and a visit by L'il Bear on Sunday. For everyone of course, have a great weekend! Trucker Bob blogged at 2:26 AM | Thursday, October 18, 2007 Morning folks. Each morning I start off on my walkabout before the sun gets cranked up too high, but there are so many little shops, stalls, parking-lot vendors etc that by the time I've got more junk than I carry I'm 2 miles from home, and the sweat is running off me. I could phone for the bus, but by the time it gets around to me I can slowly walk back. Besides, slow and steady wins the race. Don, the fellow you described is the one running the bookstore here. Your description of his mode of dress, as little as the law will allow, seems to be accurate. I learned that he wears only a thong, or hackey-sack, so until the weather cools and he puts some damn clothes on, I'll hold off passing on your request. Now, if he was of a different gender I'd be camped on the doorstep. Oh, by the way, he's known around town as "Cheeks". Wonder why. NOT! It was Lovely Rita the Meter Maid that told me about him. Her and I ended up having a great conversation, very friendly. Hmmm, next time I get lonely I might have her come over and look at my "meter". You just don't quit, do you? This place is just down the street from me, which is a good thing, because if I don't stop buying junk I might end up a client. And I haven't even hit the dollar store yet.
As always, thanks for stopping by, and I'll have some more pics tomorrow. Take care guys. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:18 AM | Wednesday, October 17, 2007 Morning folks. Well, the big shopping trip to California went very well, although the 45 minutes at 3 different stops went out the window at the first store. There were only 5 of us on the bus, and I'm sure we hit every store over there. The driver asked where any of us wanted to go, and away we'd go to the next stop. Midway through we stopped at a Sizzler for a leisurely lunch, then off to a farm for fresh fruit and vegetables. I came out of there with 4 bags, and someone asked if I was a vegetarian....No, but I think I'm going to be for the next couple of weeks. All in all we were gone 6 1/2 hours, and I made good use of the time, I'm well stocked now. By the time we got back I was draggin' butt, but not so much that I couldn't get into my comfys, and sit outside with a big ol' bowl of SHRIMP! I mean how cool is that, sitting out on the desert scarfin' shrimp. Ya gotta love it. Also enjoyed the drive over and back as it let me see some of the country. Didn't take the camera because I wasn't sure what to expect, but next time I will. The same bus goes up to Parker AZ tomorrow, and if I don't take it this week I will next trip. It also goes up to Lake Havasu, but I've got to get a schedule as to when. Also down to Yuma. The fare is by donation so I put $5 in the pot, because it was worth every penny and more. When I take the longer trips I'll bump it up accordingly. Still amazes me that this service is available, but a person would be a fool not to use it. Had a little glitch in my internet connection, for some reason they changed my "port", but after spending an hour on the phone with a tech support guy in Wisconsin, managed to re-program the modem and get back online. Sure hope that doesn't happen again, it was panic city here, especially for what I'm paying. Not much planned for today, just going to kind of veg out, literally. I have found an '84 Bronco to go look at, but after yesterday I'm in no hurry. Hope all is well with you guys, and I'll probably see ya tomorrow. P.S. I found you a Super-8 motel just a mile west of here Jim, so if you still plan on dropping my Xmas present off here you'll have a place to bunk down. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:21 AM | Tuesday, October 16, 2007 Morning folks. If you're looking for good news you've come to the right place, but first, Kudos to you guys. This is post #600 at this site, with 36,000 hits and counting, and without you none of it would be possible. Add to those numbers 2 years at my previous page, Over The Road, and you'll see why I'm so grateful to be a part of this. Thank you all! Now the good news. Instead of constantly debating with myself about not bringing the car down, or sitting here whining, each day I go out and ask questions, beat the bushes, and in the process get my chores done. It paid off yesterday because I hit the jackpot. My transportation problems are no more. While hoofing it to the bank I spotted one of those Handy-Dart type of small buses and managed to flag the driver down. What I learned is almost too good to be true, but it is. Anytime I need to go somewhere in town I simply call this number, and wait for the bus to pick me up right here at my site. But wait, it gets better. Every Tuesday and Thursday the bus goes over to Blythe on a shopping run. But wait, it gets even better. The cost? $2, if you have it, free if you don't! On the shopping run, that I'm booked on this morning, the bus stops at a major department store, a major grocery store, and a fresh fruit and produce market. 45 minutes at each stop, then right back to my door! You can bet your sweet bippy I've got my list made out, and when I hit the store, watch out! Grab a cart, fill the cart, pay, and back on the bus. YES!! Do you know how many $2 bus trips I can take for what it would have cost to get the car down here, or how much it would cost to buy, licence, and insure even a beater? As for getting further afield, leave it with me, I'll find a solution. I am so happy about this. Happy enough in fact to not be in the least concerned about Chimpy McStagger being pi**ed at me for making fun of him the other day. In fact when I heard he was coming over to whup my butt, I used the same words he used to Osama Bin Forgotten, Bring It On! He does appear to be full of resolvitude, but it's going to take more than that cowboyerin' belt he's wearing to impress me. Hey Dubya, grab your lower lip, pull it up over your forehead, and swallow. Well guys, this happy camper bids you a good day. I'm going to California for $2. YeeHaww! Trucker Bob blogged at 3:11 AM | Monday, October 15, 2007 Morning folks. I held off going over to Blythe CA yesterday so that I could be close to the phone for Betty. She did call, and asked that I tell you how much she appreciates your kind thoughts and prayers. She also told me that she understands better now what I mean about this blog family. Contary to what a lot of people think, computers, used properly, can be a wonderful thing, and this was just one small example. We are spread all over the globe, but were able to come together and show compassion when needed. Thank you! Since I was getting awfully close to having to try and make a salad from the lint in the vacuum cleaner bag, I walked to the store before the sun got too cruel. Hoo- boy, what a hike. I kept the shopping to a mininum but still had 3 bags, so I gritted my tooth and prepared for the Death March home. As I was standing outside the store a fellow that looked like a good ol' boy pulled up and within minutes I had a ride home. I offered him a cold one as thanks, but he passed this time. He's going to help me find a beater, but in the meantime he said that anytime he's in my area he'll stop by for the cold one and take me wherever I need to go. Think we found a new member to the family. Here's a few more pictures of where I am. This one I took out along the street in front. That car is in Site 1, Site 2 is empty but reserved, and I'm in Site 3. Basically the same shot, you can see the back of the Bear. I'd hate to stumble and fall into this, would definitely be a major oweee! If you embiggen this you'll see the Cafe sign just up the street from me. I go there for the health food, as in a big ol' plate of yummy-damn-yummy biscuits and gravy. Afterall I have an image to maintain. This is a much appreciated shade tree just to the right of me. I'll start taking the camera with me when I go wandering, and yes I'll take some DVs and hope they'll post. Now all I have to do is win the lottery and bring you all down for a barby. There's actually a clubhouse here for the use of the tenants, so maybe I should buy a ticket. It's been quite a year for me, up to the Yukon and Alaska, settled in Clinton, and now down here in this beautiful weather. So take that Timmy, there's still lots of life for me to live, made all the better by being able to share. Hope your week goes well guys. See ya tomorrow. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:46 AM | Sunday, October 14, 2007 Morning folks. Ol' Rip Van Wrinkled up there told me to keep the nattering down today, because he's trying to have a nap. Like, when isn't he? So in an effort to keep him happy here are some pictures of my new home, in no particular order. Here's the Bear in my site. You'll notice I still haven't bought any "furniture". This little bit got me by while camping in the North, but now that I intend to have visitors over I'll buy some chairs, table, barbeque etc. I'm going to wait until the parking lot sales start. Also deciding whether to put a carpet down, or paint the concrete a color that will match the awning. I'm leaning towards paint. These are the oranges I mentioned, look at the size of those rascals. Might have to get a whole galloon of Wodka when it's Screwdriver time. This is the orange tree at the back of the Bear. And a Palm tree at the front. If you look over the top of that trailer you'll see the "Q", signifying I suppose, Quartzsite Mountain. I've got a few more, but this will show you where I'll be spending my winter pretty much. Since the southern part of B.C. is so green pretty well year round I thought the lack of grass would bother me, but not so, the sand and gravel seem to fit the weather. Besides, it sure as heck beats the snow I spent so many years chaining up in. So Judles my dear, and others in a cold clime, I'll be thinking of you as I sip a freshly squeezed orange from my tree. It's going to be rough, but I'm willing to go through it for you. On that note I think I'd better take my leave, while I still can. Hope you're all well. P.S. A sad note. Betty's sister Marg passed away yesterday morning. Please keep Boop in your thoughts, this is a bad time for her. I'm so glad that I got my phone in, and am doubly glad that the boys are there for her. Thank you. Trucker Bob blogged at 2:54 AM | Saturday, October 13, 2007 Morning folks, and yes it feels good to be able to say that. Quickly, my absence can be explained thusly....had a little setback a few days before leaving Clinton, got over that, but then couldn't get online before leaving. So, Monday morning Oct 1, as planned, I put the car into storage in a locked, guarded compound, saddled up and rode. Because my border crossing, Osoyoos, took me past the dealer's where I bought the Bear, I stopped, had a great visit, and also had my 2-day pass at an upscale RV Park/Holiday Resort renewed since I hadn't got to use it. Stayed there in Winfield Monday and Tuesday night, but strangely couldn't get online other than dragging everything to a Rec center. No thanks. Wednesday morning, off to the border. Everything in life should be as easy as the crossing was. Checked me out on the computer, made a perfunctory walk through the Bear, chatted a few minutes, wished me a safe trip, and it was finally YeeHaw time. Stopped at the first grocery store, stocked up a bit, and get this, they gave ME exchange on CDN dollars. How sweet it is! For all my talk about taking my time coming down, I was back in my element. So I hammered down, and 3 days later I pulled in here. I actually did stop a few places, but the weather was lousy (snow and 32F) and I figured if I've got to burn propane to run the furnace, I might as well burn gas and turn the wheels. Besides, putting me behind the wheel is like putting your hand in a glove. By Saturday noon, Oct 6, I was set up here, rent paid, at the Paradise RV park in Quartzsite AZ. Within an hour I had ordered phone installation, and high-speed internet. On Wednesday, as promised, they showed up but found a problem with the junction box, so it was Thursday when I got my phone working, and yesterday (Fri) UPS delivered my modem. I managed to hook everything up properly, and the rest is history. I brought my wireless router with me and will try to get it working today, because it is a jungle in here with all the wires etc., but no matter, I'm on and plan to stay on until at least the end of March. So be prepared for some industrial-strength natterin'. Since I still haven't found a beater for transportation, I'm going to drive the Bear over to Blythe CA tomorrow ( no biggie..20 miles) do a bunch of shopping, and buy a new TV, since I managed to bust this one. The on/off button wasn't working properly, and being so patient (NOT!) I poked my finger right into the TV. Whoops! Hopefully by Wednesday my satellite dish will be set up and I'll be all set. I've also ordered a 50 gallon water tank from Yosemite Mountain Spring Water, because the water here is not the best, to put it kindly. So slowly it's all coming together. As for the weather, well, for the first time in my life I'm wandering around in sandals and shorts, and lovin' it! Still a bit hot during the day ( 104 under the awning), but cools off nicely at night. The days will start cooling shortly, and then just be perfect all winter. I'll take some shots of my site with it's concrete patio slab and storage shed, and also the loaded orange tree just at the back of the Bear. Not ripe yet, but boy are they big oranges. Might have to get me a jug of wodka and make some screwdrivers. Speaking of booze, I bought a 30-pack of beer (Natural Ice) for $13.49. Who needs water? Well, there you are guys, all caught up. It's just so damn nice to be back with you. As I sat here this week waiting to get hooked up I realized what an intregal part of my life this is, and you are. And for that, among other things, I'm thankful. Be as nice to yourselves as you are with me, and life will truly be a bowl of cherries. I know that sounds corny, but damnit, I'm hungry. At least I didn't mention shrimp. Later guys. Trucker Bob blogged at 3:07 AM | Friday, October 12, 2007 Hi guys. Butt-whuppin' or no, it is just so damn good to be back. My absence was certainly not planned, and with a little 'splaining you'll see that it was all very innocent. But first, I simply don't have the words to tell you of my feelings in reading the comments. I've long referred to us as a blog family, and what I found when I hooked up the modem just minutes ago stands testament to that. I may be alone physically, but I'm far from being alone thanks to you guys. I finally got to talk with Boop this morning, and it warmed my heart to hear her confirm what we all know, that my little Babushka is okay. Jude, she really appreciated your call, and I thank you so much for doing it. There are so many things I want to tell you, but for now I'll stick this up, and on my next post (soon) I'll walk you through the trip down. I've actually been set up here in Quartzsite since last Saturday. Can't, and won't, single any one person out, so how about a big ol' group grope, er, hug? I'm now going to try and sort out the wires, cords, etc before I strangle myself in here. Next up, satellite TV, my own water tank, and find me a beater to hunt down the chickareenos, or go to the store. Later guys! Trucker Bob blogged at 2:19 PM | Wednesday, October 10, 2007 Jude here! So we're all agreed that we're looking forward to lining up to give Bob a kick in the pants for not speaking to us. I'm thinking that while we're waiting, we could have a little fun with this, no? While we each own a leg or two with a foot on the end to kick with, there might just be some other choice weapons to use on the naughty Trucker too. Like this. Hmm. I'm concerned he might like that though. Okay maybe this? Uh, no I think he'd REALLY like that one too much! Maybe there's another way. What's your choice, any other suggestions? And no, those are not devil horns you see growing out of my head. Bob knows I'm not evIL, but that I just like to get evEN. Mua haha.
